Sourdough Surprises - April

"One a penny, two a penny, hot cross buns!"

Did you ever learn that song growing up? We sure did, and we think that Hot Cross Buns would be an excellent challenge this month! It only makes sense that since we did something relating to March last month that this month we do something relating to April, right? If you have never tasted one, a hot cross bun is a spiced sweet bun, usually with dried fruits like currants or raisins and marked with a slightly sweet flour paste cross on top. They are mostly popular during Easter time, but they are delicious all year long, and are definitely worth trying, no matter your religious preference.

As always, feel free to use whichever recipe you like. Feel free to use any combination of spices/dried fruits that you like, and if you would like to mark your buns with something other than a cross I am sure that would be ok, too! If you need some inspiration/recipes, check out our Monthly Inspiration Board on Pinterest!

To join us this month:

1. Choose a recipe and bake some delicious hot cross buns, utilizing your sourdough starter!
2. Take some photos and blog about it on April 20, 2014
3. Make sure that you include a backlink to our blog somewhere in your post
4. Follow this link:  get the InLinkz code and choose the HTML code that works best for you and your blog. Copy and paste it into the HTML section of your blog. You will know you have done it correctly if you see a little blue frog face.
5. Make sure you enter your post into the linky tool on reveal day so everyone can see what you have made!

Of course! I'm sure I'm not the only one here who was already planning hot cross buns, and this gives me a great excuse to make multiple batches!

Awesome! I was really really really hoping last night that you guys would choose one of the many Eastter-related buns. YES! I have already made a sourdough bun. May even have it on the blog too. So it's time to experiment!
